Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
(Romans 8:26-27 [KJV])
The tap root is the large middle root of a tree that grows straight down and deep. The rest of the root system branches out from this main central root that feeds the tree and keeps it straight, solid and grounded.
Prayer comes in many forms. Worship, meditation, intercessions, supplications, petition, praise, ceremonial, invocations and benedictions and all of these forms of prayer are like the auxiliary roots that feed into the tap root who is the Holy Spirit of God and all these forms of prayer have their place and purpose.
The highest form of prayer however is not from the outward roots going inward but from the tap root itself, the Holy Ghost flowing back through every root and branch of your spiritual being. It is this form of prayer that emanates from God himself, through us and back to Himself that is the prayer that will always be answered. It is not "channeling God" but is God channeling you!
Instead of searching and struggling to find things to bring to God in prayer, prayer in the tap root or in the Spirit comes from listening rather than speaking. This is why God tells us "Be Still and Know." It is not meditation such as the world meditates... emptying their minds but is a filling of the heart and mind and an acute listening for that still small voice that we often speak over so abruptly forcing our own thoughts on God rather than allowing the flow of prayer from the Spirit to move us.
If you are a child of God you have a tap root that holds you secure. You have been sealed by that Holy Spirit of Promise who has baptized you into the family of God and indwells you. The Spirit of God within you is praying without ceasing creating a fountain of blessing and is the source of the living water that should overflow us and out from us.
Seek the presence of the Lord. Do not be in a rush or a hurry. Do not bring the confusion of your own jumbled thoughts but simply seek the Lord. Like Samuel simply say, "Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth".
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. (I Samuel 3:9 [KJV]
